An Ouseburn- based restaurant is celebrating some of Britain’s most classic dishes with a special tasting menu this September.

artisan, located in The Biscuit Factory – the UK’s largest arts, craft and design gallery – hosts its ‘British Classics’ Seasonal Showcase on Wednesday, 7 September 2016.

From the humble sausage roll and cottage pie, to the distinct flavour of fish and tartare sauce – the seven-course menu promises to serve up a dose of foodie nostalgia using the finest locally sourced produce, presented in artisan’s modern, signature style.

Created by Head Chef Andrew Wilkinson, the menu gets underway with a welcome drink and a serving of cauliflower soup accompanied by black pudding and apple sausage roll. This is followed by a late summer country garden salad; and then North Sea plaice with warm tartare sauce, lettuce, crushed pea, and scampi.
Sirloin of Hereford beef follows alongside white onion, thyme and oxtail cottage pie.

To finish – apple crumble fool with blackberries, yoghurt and hazelnut; and then a portion of nutmeg and custard tart with Garibaldi biscuit.

Restaurant manager, Jaime McGuigan said: “For September’s showcase we’re taking simple dishes and giving them a modern twist, pairing them with unexpected and new flavour combinations. For new diners to the restaurant, the tasting menu makes a great introduction to our head chef’s award-winning style of cooking.”

The à la carte restaurant, which features in this year’s Good Food Guide, hosts its Seasonal Showcase on the first Wednesday of every month. The six or seven-course tasting menu celebrates an ingredient, a type of cooking or time of year.

The British Classics Seasonal Showcase is priced at £42.50 per person. An optional flight of wine is also available at £26.50 per person. The menu will be served throughout the evening and tables must be booked in advance.
