In pictures: Five-star Magpies win Diriyah Season Cup in Riyadh

Newcastle United won what they hope will be the first of many trophies under their new ownership as Jamaal Lascelles lifted the Diriyah Season Cup in Riyadh on Thursday night.

There are bigger prizes than this friendly tournament in Saudi Arabia that the Magpies will hope to add to their trophy cabinet in the future, but as the United skipper held the cup aloft in Riyadh with tickertape falling and a light show taking place behind the celebrating squad, even the most hardened supporter would have been forgiven for allowing themselves to imagine such scenes being repeated at Wembley or St. James' Park over the next few years.

Al Hilal are no stranger to silverware themselves - they're the most decorated club in Asia, and this game was a headline attraction of Saudi Arabia's Diriyah Season, which takes place during the winter months and has previously included a boxing heavyweight title bout between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz, tennis tournaments and Formula E, along with live music performances from global artists such as Usher, Pitbull and David Guetta.

But it also served as important preparation for the second part of the Premier League season, which resumes on Boxing Day, and doubles from Joelinton and Miguel Almirón, plus a first senior goal for youngster Dylan Stephenson, earned Newcastle a big win. Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, with the long-serving snapper no doubt dreaming of capturing many more trophy lifts from here on in.
