Lascelles, who started his career with Newcastle’s opponents, Nottingham Forest, chats candidly about his time at the City Ground and his aspirations for the season ahead over the course of an exclusive, six-page interview, as well as providing his customary set of captain’s notes.

Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves and BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter James Bay – both huge Magpies fans – provide columns, while United Backstage, the feature looking at those working behind the scenes at St. James’ Park, returns to the programme after a four-year absence, with physio Dave Galley first to talk about his role.

UNITED’s sections on club history and the day’s opposition have also been bolstered for the new season. Club Historian Paul Joannou and regular columnist Stan Gate provide four pages each, while two new features, Toon Voyage! and Ex-Magpies Covered, appear for the first time. The former looks back at some of the most significant geographical locations in United’s history, which we’ll pull together at the end of the campaign to create something of a club “heritage trail”.

Young defender Matt Bondswell, who caught the eye for Newcastle’s first team during pre-season, reflects on a hugely promising summer in The Academy Diary, while new Newcastle United Women signing Freya Bailes tells us all about herself. Coverage on the Lady Magpies, too, has doubled for the 2022/23 season.

Furthermore, there’s a new-look stats section, four pages for Junior Magpies, a Toon Tombola with Emil Krafth and boss Eddie Howe’s thoughts ahead of the big kick-off.
