The Magpies rounded off the 2021/22 season with a 2-1 win at Burnley on Sunday to finish the campaign 11th in the Premier League, despite failing to win any of their opening 14 matches.
The result at Turf Moor saw the home side relegated, and the fact that Newcastle went into this game having secured safety some time ago despite their rotten start underlines the job done by Eddie Howe since his appointment as head coach in November.
United have had to do without Callum Wilson for much of the second half of the campaign too, but his two goals on Sunday took him to eight for the season as he finished as the Magpies' leading goalscorer for the second term in a row. His first here came from the penalty spot before he doubled his tally for the day in the second half, tapping home from a great cross from Allan Saint-Maximin.
Maxwel Cornet pulled one back but Newcastle withstood the late pressure from a home side fighting for their Premier League lives, and Howe's men finished on 49 points. Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from Turf Moor.
