Four senior additions for Newcastle United Women
Written by Joseph Nelson
Newcastle United Women have been busy recruiting ahead of the 2022/23 season.
After making great strides last term, finishing second in the FA Women's National League Division One North, Becky Langley earmarked some key areas for improvement in her squad.
And so far, the Lady Magpies have added four new recruits to their ranks, with further additions expected.
Freya Bailes (above) is the first of Langley's summer additions and she will be looking to add to her impressive performances for Durham University, which also saw her selected for England Universities last season.
Bailes captains her University side and will provide the Lady Magpies with key leadership qualities and resolute defending as Langley's side aim for promotion this season.
Fellow Durham University talent Emma Wallis (above) also links up with the Lady Magpies for the 2022/23 season.
Formerly of Ipswich Town Women, Wallis is a confident and assured full-back and reinforces a steely Newcastle Women defence that conceded just 16 goals in the league last season.
Another reinforcement comes in the form of Grace Boyes (above), a versatile defender who can operate at either left-back or centre-back.
Boyes previously plied her trade at close rivals Sunderland Ladies and joins Langley's side looking to contribute to another title challenge this term.
Also from Sunderland Ladies, Daisy Burt (below) adds further quality to the Lady Magpies' rearguard.
A trusted and dependable full-back, Burt enjoyed her first season with the Sunderland Ladies senior squad last term. In addition to this experience, the defender has also represented England at youth level.
Langley is expected to add further reinforcements to her squad this summer as the Lady Magpies target title success this term.
Keep an eye out for even more updates on the Newcastle Women squad in the lead up to their first fixture of the season, on Sunday, 21st August.
