Travel advice issued for Magpies' home friendlies

Newcastle United fans who are travelling to this weekend's pre-season friendlies against Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao are advised to allow extra time for their journeys due to a planned Metro line closure and industrial action on the railway.

Nexus, the public body which owns and manages Metro, has put a 14-day line closure in place from Saturday, 16th July to Friday, 29th July - the day the Magpies take on Serie A side Atalanta at St. James' Park (7:45pm kick-off) - to allow for major modernisation work.

The line will be closed between St. James' and Tynemouth, but Metro customers can use their tickets and passes on 11 local bus services which will be running in the affected area. Further information is available here.

The line will reopen to Metro services on Saturday, 30th July.

United take on Athletic Bilbao at 3pm on Saturday, but industrial action on the railway means LNER will be running a limited service that day.

More information is available here, with supporters affected by the planned work advised to plan their journeys carefully and allow plenty of time to get to get to and from St. James' Park.
