Benfica clash in pictures

A late goal from Henrique Araújo won the Eusébio Cup for hosts Benfica against ten-man Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

The Portuguese giants twice went ahead at the Estádio da Luz, through Gonçalo Ramos and Álejandro Grimaldo - but on each occasion, Eddie Howe's men roared back through Miguel Almirón, whose goalscoring form has been a big plus of United's pre-season campaign.

Newcastle changed their entire starting XI at half time, but maintained their momentum despite an injury to Jonjo Shelvey. However, when Joelinton was sent off for a second yellow card, Benfica made their numerical advantage count in front of a passionate and noisy home crowd, with the decisive goal coming with just over a minute left on the clock.

The travelling fans, and those watching on NUFC TV, will have taken heart from aspects of United's performance against a side that reached the quarter-finals of last season's Champions League, though, and club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from Lisbon.
