Team news: Magpies unchanged for City

Written by Tom Easterby

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has named an unchanged side for Sunday's visit of Manchester City (4:30pm kick-off).

United face the reigning champions at St. James' Park hoping to preserve their unbeaten record, while Pep Guardiola's men arrive on Tyneside with a 100% win record so far.

Head coach Howe has opted to keep faith with the same starting 11 that lined up for the goalless draw at Brighton & Hove Albion last week.

That means Nick Pope - who is yet to concede for the Magpies - starts in goal, with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schär, Sven Botman and Dan Burn forming a back four.

In front of them, Bruno Guimarães will anchor the midfield, with Joelinton and Joe Willock either side of the Brazilian and Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almirón on the flanks.

And Newcastle's number nine Callum Wilson will lead the line for Howe's side, who have two clean sheets from two Premier League outings so far in 2022/23.

Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie provide defensive cover on the bench, with Sean Longstaff and Elliot Anderson the midfield reinforcements.

Further forward, Howe can choose to deploy Jacob Murphy, Ryan Fraser and Chris Wood should United require any offensive backup.

Martin Dúbravka is the sole goalkeeper among the substitutes.
