After joining the Magpies from Liverpool last summer, Niall netted on his under-23s debut in a 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough.
The Wigan-born midfielder had been at the Reds' Academy since the age of eight before making the switch from Merseyside to Tyneside.
Capable of playing in defence as well as the middle of the park, Niall made his under-18s bow for Liverpool at the age of 15 under Steven Gerrard during the 2017/18 campaign.
Brookwell turned down offers from other Premier League clubs, as well as elsewhere in the Football League, to join the Magpies and has captained United's under-23 side on numerous occasions during the 2021/22 campaign.
