^Matty Longstaff

A livewire midfielder, Matthew linked up with United after being spotted playing for North Shields Juniors.

Matty is the younger brother of Sean. In addition, the Longstaffs' dad, David, was capped over 100 times by Great Britain's national hockey side before retiring in 2013. The midfielder was born in Rotherham during his father's spell with Sheffield Steelers. 

Matty was given an opportunity in pre-season ahead of the 2019/20 campaign by new head coach Steve Bruce, and impressed enough to force his way into the first team squad.

He made a memorable Premier League debut, playing alongside his brother and scoring the winner at St. James' Park against Manchester United on Sunday October 6th, 2019.

Longstaff joined Aberdeen on loan in August 2021, then spent the second half of the season with Mansfield Town before returning to United ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. He then moved to Colchester United for the first part of the current campaign.
