Match officials announced ahead of Cherries visit

Craig Pawson will be the referee when Newcastle United return to Premier League action against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

Saturday 17th September
Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth
St. James' Park
Kick-off 3pm BST
Ticket details

The 43-year-old's first top flight appointment came in a game involving the Magpies back in March 2013. On that occasion, Pawson's Premier League debut ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Magpies at Swansea City.

Pawson was born in Sheffield and after a stint officiating in the EFL, that game at the Liberty Stadium marked his progression to the top division, where he has been a regular fixture now for the best part of a decade. He has also been a FIFA-listed referee since 2015, meaning he can also take charge of international fixtures and games in European competition.

Last term, Pawson was in the middle for four Newcastle fixtures - the 1-1 draw with Manchester United in December 2021, the 1-0 win over Aston Villa in February, the loss at Everton by the same scoreline a month later and the final-day 2-1 victory at Burnley.
