Lads backing Wor Flags scarf campaign

Written by Andrew Lisgo

Local lads Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff are backing Wor Flags' campaign for fans to bring their scarves to Newcastle United's Carabao Cup game against Leicester City on Tuesday evening.

The renowned fans' group launched the initiative on their social media channels last week, encouraging fans to bring their black and white scarves to contribute to another electric atmosphere at St. James' Park.

Burn was a young fan at Alan Shearer's testimonial match against Celtic in 2006 and has fond memories of the atmosphere that evening.

"I remember Shearer's testimonial very well, celebrating his career and the atmosphere with the scarves was absolutely electric," he said. "I loved the whole game because of what it was and the atmosphere. I was 14 at the time so really into my football and it was great to be there."

The defender from Blyth had his flag design, created in a recent club partner activation, on display at the Leeds United last month, and he is full of praise for Wor Flags' support this season.

"It's a huge game for us so having the added impact of the atmosphere is important and it will look very impressive, so hopefully everybody can get behind Wor Flags' initiative," he added. "They've been great with the flags this season and it makes a difference and makes matchdays extra special."
