In-form centre half Fabian Schär adorns the front cover of Sunday’s issue of UNITED – the Magpies’ official matchday programme – as Eddie Howe’s side welcome Fulham to St. James’ Park.
Schär – who hasn’t tasted defeat in a Newcastle shirt all season – reflects on United’s incredible start to 2022/23 over the course of an exclusive, in-depth interview, in which he also discusses his flourishing partnership with Dutchman Sven Botman.
Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves provides his latest column, while United Backstage, the feature in which we shine a light on some of those working behind the scenes at the club, continues with a look at box office co-ordinator Jan Brien.
Goalkeeper Nick Pope is the latest to dip his hand into The Toon Tombola, discussing John Darwin, Scooby-Doo and Sean Longstaff’s cat. German-born striker Isaac Westendorf provides this week’s Academy Diary, while Newcastle United Women’s Charlotte Potts – who’s played in the WSL, Switzerland and Canada – tells us all about her journey back to Tyneside.
As always, club historian Paul Joannou and regular columnist Stan Gate provide four pages each; Paul looks back at United’s first ever season in black and white, 1894/95, and how the colour change came about, while Stan brings all sorts of black and white insignia back to light in Toon Collectables. Toon Voyage!, meanwhile, a new series looking at some of the most significant geographical locations in the Magpies’ history, continues with a look at the pubs surrounding St. James’ Park, many of which have come and gone over the years.
Furthermore, there’s ten pages on visitors Fulham, three more for Junior Magpies, boss Howe and skipper Jamaal Lascelles’ thoughts ahead of the game and lots of extra reading material.
UNITED will be on sale around the ground, priced at £3.50.
