Right back Javier Manquillo joined Newcastle United on a permanent deal from Spanish giants Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2017.
Born in the Spanish capital, Manquillo began his career with Atlético’s city rivals Real Madrid but switched clubs alongside his twin brother, Víctor, in 2007.
Having progressed through the youth ranks, he made his first team debut in a friendly against Egyptian side Zamalek SC in 2011 before making his competitive debut a month later in the Copa del Rey.
In August 2014, he moved to the Premier League on a two-season loan with Liverpool before a year-long loan spell in France with Marseille and a second loan spell in the Premier League with Sunderland during the 2016/17 campaign.
Manquillo became the Magpies’ fourth signing of the summer in 2017, joining Newcastle United ahead of the 2017/18 Premier League season and has since proven to be a capable addition to the Magpies' ranks, with his first goal for the club coming at Old Trafford against Manchester United in September 2021.
