Newcastle United Under-21s' winless Premier League 2 start continued following a 4-2 defeat against ten-man Norwich City on Sunday afternoon.
Newcastle's youngsters conceded three times in the opening 45 minutes at the Lotus Training Centre, trailing inside four minutes through Tyrese Omotoye's opener before strikes from Abu Kamara and Tom Dickson-Peters extended the Canaries' advantage before the half-time whistle, with United goalkeeper Jude Smith - making his Magpies debut at under-21 level since joining from East Fife, saving the latter's penalty on the half-hour mark.
Dylan Stephenson, who made his Magpies first-team debut against Athletic Club last month, reduced the deficit for United's second-string within 60 seconds of the restart before City regained their three-goal cushion following Jaden Warner's strike.
Jay Turner-Cooke gave the young Magpies hope after scoring from the penalty spot, with Norwich defender Sean Stewart receiving a red card in the build-up, but the visitors were unable to spark a fightback in Norfolk.
In the 4th minute, Norwich opened the scoring as Omotoye controlled Dickson-Peters' pass inside the penalty area before firing a left-footed effort into the bottom right-hand corner.
Smith was on hand to deny Dickson-Peters from the penalty spot, with the Scottish teenager - who began his career at Celtic's Academy - getting down low to save the striker's spot-kick.
However, the hosts doubled their advantage as Kamara, from a tight angle, fired the ball into the far right-hand corner.
On the stroke of half-time, Dickson-Peters netted City's third of the afternoon after placing the ball into the right-hand corner.
Newcastle began the second-half in bright fashion as Stephenson, who scored 12 Premier League 2 goals last term, netted his first goal of the 2022/23 campaign with a close-range finish.
In the 55th minute, Norwich added a fourth as Warner guided a header, from Joe Duffy's teasing cross, into the top right-hand corner.
In the 70th minute, Newcastle pulled a goal back as Turner-Cooke netted from 12 yards. After Niall Brookwell's header towards goal was blocked by Stewart, with the City full-back receiving a red card, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder converted his spot-kick after firing into the middle of the net.
Newcastle United Under-21s are back in Premier League 2 action on Friday, 26th August when they host their Derby County counterparts at Whitley Park (kick-off 7pm BST).
