Newcastle United Under-18s fell to a third consecutive defeat in the Under-18 Premier League North following a 3-1 home loss against their Derby County counterparts on Saturday afternoon.
The Toon teenagers, heading into the league contest off the back of an impressive 4-1 away win at Manchester United in the Premier League Cup group stages, got off to a flying start at United's Little Benton Academy, leading inside three minutes through Josh Donaldson's opener before Cameron Ashia quickly equalised for the Rams.
County took the lead before the half-hour mark through Callum Moore's volley, minutes after Donaldson had struck the post for the hosts.
Ben Parkinson, who made his debut for Newcastle's under-21 side during a Papa John's Trophy clash against Barnsley, saw his second-half free-kick clip the post for Newcastle before Derby extended their lead in the closing stages through Lennon Wheeldon's penalty.
