The Sheffield official was the man in the middle for Newcastle's 1-1 home draw with Bournemouth at St. James' Park in September, handing out yellow cards to Joelinton and Dan Burn. On that occasion, he also gave a penalty to Eddie Howe's side following a VAR check, which was slotted home by Alexander Isak.

Almost a month later, the 43-year-old took charge of the Magpies' game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Burn the only Newcastle player booked in the goalless draw.

Pawson's first Premier League appointment came in a game involving Newcastle back in March 2013 as the Magpies were beaten 1-0 at Swansea City, while last term, he oversaw four matches involving Howe's men - the 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United in December 2021, February 2022's 1-0 win over Aston Villa, a 1-0 defeat at Everton the following month and the 2-1 win at Burnley on the final day of the campaign.

He has yet to show a red card so far this season.
