A leader on and off the pitch, central defender Lascelles became United’s captain at the start of the 2016/17 season.
The son and brother of professional basketball players, he could have pursued a career in the sport himself but instead opted for football - joining Nottingham Forest in 2011 despite growing up close to the home of rivals, Derby County.
Lascelles made his first-team debut for Forest in January 2012 and after a brief loan spell with Stevenage, he established himself as one of the most highly-rated young defenders outside of the top flight.
He moved to St. James’ Park alongside close friend Karl Darlow in the summer of 2014 and after a season-long loan spell back at the City Ground, the commanding centre half returned to Tyneside to cement his place in the first team before being given the captain’s armband by then-boss Rafa Benítez.
He has since become an integral and influential part of the first team set-up, helping to reestablish United in the top flight.
