^Jonjo Shelvey

A cultured, combative midfielder who has represented England at senior level, Shelvey has an impressive passing range and has found the net with spectacular efforts from distance on several occasions.

Born in Harold Hill, East London, Jonjo played for capital clubs Arsenal, West Ham and Charlton as a youngster but it was with the Addicks that he became the club’s youngest-ever player – making his debut at the age of 16 years and 59 days.

In January 2009, he broke another record, this time becoming Charlton's youngest-ever goalscorer when he netted against Norwich in the FA Cup – 54 days shy of his 17th birthday.

He sealed a move to Liverpool in May 2010 and – either side of a loan spell at Blackpool – made 69 appearances in three years at Anfield, lifting the League Cup in 2012 and making his senior debut for England in the same year.

In 2013, he joined Swansea City in the Premier League and became an instant hit at the Liberty Stadium.

Newcastle made their move for the midfielder in January 2016 and he made his United debut against West Ham later that month, helping the Magpies to a 2-1 victory.

Despite the club’s relegation at the end of that season, Shelvey stayed with the club and was an integral part of the side which won the Championship title to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

And he has remained an important part of the United squad since then, captaining the side on occasion in the absence of Jamaal Lascelles.
