Charlton Athletic U18s 2 Newcastle United U18s 3
Two goals from Ben Parkinson and a second half Johnny Emerson winner sealed a superb FA Youth Cup third round win for Newcastle United Under-18s as they saw off Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.
Parkinson fired United into an early lead at The Valley with just under quarter of an hour played, but Daniel Kanu equalised for the Addicks before the break, beating the impressive Aidan Harris who had earlier denied Karoy Anderson and Henry Rylah.
Graeme Carrick's youngsters then fell behind when Toby Bower struck for the hosts with 51 minutes on the clock but just before the hour mark Parkinson grabbed his second of the evening to haul the Magpies level.
And it got even better for the visitors 20 minutes from time when Emerson netted what turned out to be the winner when the ball fell his way in the penalty box.
Emerson's strike, in the end, was enough to make the difference and take Carrick's side through to the fourth round, though United did have to withstand a late scare when Ralfi Hand struck the upright in the dying seconds.
